Odesa, Monumental Stairs, 1837-1841
One of Odesa’s most famous monuments is the impressive Stairs connecting the urban front facing the sea (and in particular the square on which stands the monument to the city’s founder, the Duke of Richelieu) to the port area below. It was designed by Francesco Boffa (1796-1867), from Arasio, a village in the Collina d’Oro (Canton Ticino), one of the leading architects working in the city.
